Methodology
How we research winter travel in Europe.
Our Editorial Philosophy
A good winter trip depends on the month, the kind of weather you want and what will be open. We use cited sources for the facts, then explain the trade-offs.
How We Compare Options
Recommendations consider these criteria and explain their limits:
- 1
Trip fit
Match the destination to the month, the traveler and the weather they want.
- 2
Winter conditions
Use long-term averages for temperature, rain and daylight from the cited sources.
- 3
Season and opening
Separate year-round sights from seasonal closures and holiday hours.
- 4
Evidence
Cite factual claims and leave out details no source supports.
What We Don't Rank By
Understanding what we explicitly exclude matters for trust.
- ✗Affiliate commission rates
- ✗Paid placement
- ✗Invented visits
- ✗Weather guarantees
Where Our Data Comes From
Our guides synthesize multiple signal types. We prioritize signals in this order:
1. Weather services and tourism offices
Climate normals, official event dates and seasonal information
2. Venues and operators
Opening hours, winter timetables and booking terms
3. Attributed reporting
Published context with an identifiable source and date
Handling Uncertainty
Weather averages describe typical conditions, not a forecast. When a source does not confirm a detail such as holiday opening hours, we leave it out and name who publishes it.
